How Vintage Toys Out-perform Modern Toys
Many top toy news sources say that vintage toys are making a come-back. This trend is surprising, considering what a big business it has become to market toys from popular movies. So what sets vintage toys apart from contemporary toys?
Firstly, most vintage toys are constructed out of environmentally safe materials. Some old-fashioned toy materials are bronze, wood, leather, string, and non-toxic paints. Another distinction is the durability of classic toys. Indeed, many ordinary toys from fifty years ago are still in use today, passed down through the generations. Back then, toys were made to last, and they could handle the rough n tumble treatment of children.
However, the biggest distinction between vintage toys and modern toys is that vintage toys were made to engage their curiousity. Comparatively speaking, contemporary toys tend to keep kids distracted. While this is great for the babysitter or the nanny, this trend is not so helpful for childhood development.
In the past, vintage toys acted as springboards for children’s imaginative powers. Additionally, toys from the past encouraged kids to move and jump around. This is very different from today, in which most toys encourage sedentary living!
That’s why parents should reconsider vintage toys. Even though vintage toys are more expensive out of the box, chances are they will stick around long enough to be appreciated – if not today, than maybe in ten years time.
