The Best Known 5 Summer Games For Kids

Kids or children love to play the top team/ball games in summer anywhere they can, including in their backyards. This can be less than ideal for the horticultural enthusiasts plants, and at times may raise objections from near neighbors if the ball strays or noise levels rise with the excitement!

Here are 5 very special favorite summer games for kids of any age:

1. Cricket

The archetypal summer game can be enjoyed by kids in the back yard, with a tennis ball and a cheap ‘toy’ bat, once they understand the basics of the game. They can play with as few as three players if they mark the stumps on a wall behind the batting position.

The rules are simple for children’s cricket and essentially the same as for the adult game except that all will agree the position of the boundary for a six, which will be at a fence or a flower border edge.

Adult cricket is played on an oval patch of grass in the center of which is a flat strip of ground called a cricket pitch. A wooden wicket is placed at each end of the pitch, but you can scale this down to suit circumstances at any time for a children’s game.

Cricket is the game of passion, thrill and excitement. Many have said that the game is a brotherhood, with all that fraternity entails, including mutual obligation. Cricket is the most popular sport in India, and one of the most popular sports played over the Australian summer.

Although cricket is not a contact sport, injuries can and do occur, often due to overuse. Children must never use a hard cricket ball for their games, or spend too long at any one playing role.

2. Rounders

Rounders is believed to have been the game from which baseball is derived. Baseball is clearly the most popular in the US, but rounders is also played, and is good for children in largish back yards and on playgrounds. Rounders is now played on all levels from school-level to internationals.

Rounders is more straightforward and sober-minded than baseball. However, it is is a bat and ball game and is not that dis-similar to baseball. Rounders can and is played throughout the summer by all age groups, from school children all the way up to and including senior level. It is, in fact,an English version of baseball and is normally played between two teams of nine, but fewer can play in the kids version of this game. The history of rounders is amazing long and is the sixteenth century British version of a bat and ball game that dates back to “the dawn of time”. In theory, it is a descendant of the bat and ball games played by our “cavemen” ancestors.

Playing rounders will give you a feel for what baseball is like. Baseball is an ever forgiving game. Baseball is also a great game, even known as the American pastime. It seems that everyone loves baseball at least sometime in their lives, so give your children a first step into that world by playing rounders with them in the summer.

Baseball is played on a field with three bases and a home plate. The team on offense has a player at home plate (called the “hitter” or “batter”) trying to hit the ball with a baseball bat.

3. Tennis

Tennis is a sport that is unpopular in the U.S. Its not a sport for the wealthy but its viewed as such. Tennis is a game for all . It is a game for everyone to enjoy. Tennis is the best individual sport in the world. It brings together every aspect of the mind, body, heart and soul of a player.

Tennis is nowadays once again an Olympic sport. It has become very popular and is played at all levels of society, by all ages, and in almost all countries worldwide.

4. Pitch and Putt

Pitch and putt is played with just a wedge and putter. The game is played on a 9 or 18 hole course where the maximum distance from tee to green is 70 metres; an 18-hole course cannot exceed 1,000 metres. These courses are ideal for children to play on and get their first taste of a game like golf where the aim is to position the ball precisely, at put it into the hole at the end of each pitch.

Pitch and Putt is a sport for all ages from seven to seventy, so why not give it a try? You may be pleasantly surprised.

5. Handball

Handball is almost perfectly suited for children’s play, and is great to play outside in summer. With almost no necessary equipment, the game can provide hours of fun and exercise at little or no cost. It is a hugely successful sport in Sweden and is one of the free sport games where you have to shoot and dodge the ball. You can only score if it was your serve.

The team with the most goals wins the game, which is played on a court which is 40 m long by 20 wide, with goals at each end. Each team has 6 players and 1 goal keeper on the court.

Handball is the parent sport of Racquetball. If you know Racquetball, handball has much of the same rules. The origin is gaelic, but it is like squash with no raquettes.

General game rules and the goal of the game are similar to football. Handball is an enjoyable sporting activity for everyone. Those children who may shy away from traditional team sports or athletics because of a lack of confidence or self-judged lack of skill, often relish the opportunity to play a game such as handball.

How To Best Improve A Velocity

Every college pitcher is looking to increase his pitching velocity. Most pitchers are throwing below 85 mph. For many an extra 4-7 mph of pitching velocity could mean not only much better performance but for some, it is a ticket to their dream…a chance to play professional baseball.

Unfortunately, some college coaches are giving out very poor advice on pitching drills to pitchers who want to maximize their velocity. They tell them in the spring to go off and play summer ball and work on getting bigger and stronger. Bad, bad advice. Neither more weight training nor more long toss is going to have much of an effect on increasing velocity, and yet the large majority of coaches at the high school and college levels do not know this.

There are no magic bullets to improve pitching velocity. Sports science research has proven this, but coaches do not read research. Instead they pass around the same old thoughts over and over that have no basis in fact. Magic bullets for improving velocity do not exist: not weighted baseballs, long toss or going into the weight room to get bigger and stronger.

Pitching velocity does not come from arm strength. All coaches and parents should read that over and over. Those who are selling weighted baseballs for improving velocity are ripping people off. And whatever else they are selling should be suspect as well. Higher pitching velocity comes from using the entire body to build momentum into a long stride. By the time the pitcher’s front foot is on the ground, he will not be able to produce much more velocity. This means that most of a pitcher’s velocity is produced before his throwing arm even starts to move the ball toward the plate. Amzazing, isn’t it? But that and many of other facts have been proven by sports science research.

There is one tool however, that is the most powerful tool for helping pitchers increase velocity and yet you will rarely see it being used by even experienced coaches or high paid private instructors. What is that tool? Video analysis that instantly provides all the feedback a coach or player needs to help recognize which mechanical faults are holding that pitcher back.

Unfortunately, most pitching instruction today is a waste of money and time. Any instructor who is not using a camcorder regularly is a fraud. Why? Because there is no way on this earth that any instructor is able to recognize mechanical problems using just the naked eye. None. Not even big league pitching coaches. This is why the most important aspect of our instructional DVD program is about showing parents, coaches and players how to videotape using a simple camcorder. Without this tool coaches and instructors are just guessing.

So if it’s so important to video analyze a pitcher, why don’t just about every instructor or coach at every level use it? Because they do not understand
baseball pitching techniques. Pitching lessons composed of pitching drills are largely a waste of time. The foolish towel drill, balance drill or kneeling drill will never in a million years help a pitcher improve his velocity or control. And yes, even the well known pitching gurus recommend every imaginable drill and seem to invent more each day. Drills are now used by pitching instructors to kill time during lessons because they don’t know what else to do.

What is required to improve velocity is usually improved speed of movement for developing more momentum into a longer stride. Or sometimes it just requires that the pitcher improve his timing so he is making a much smoother throw so that his body is building more energy longer. Smoothness in a pitcher equals good timing. Most pitchers simply want to get to ball release too fast. The secret to more velocity is to get to ball release later so that more energy has a chance to be stored in the body. That stored elastic energy is the secret to moving the arm faster. The arm does not move fast by itself. The body moving fast is required. Get this issue taken care of, and you can move on to working on your baseball pitching grips.

There are thousands upon thousands of high school and college pitchers who could improve their velocity anywhere from 3-12 mph by getting an expert opinion on their mechanics and also finding out how they are spending their practice time trying to improve. A video analysis by an expert is one of the most valuable tools for pitching improvement. But make sure that instructor is an expert.

Using Night Vision Goggles Today

Technology has always gone its way to develop many devices to make everything as simple as it could be. Similar to the ordinary goggles that individuals use; who would have thought that in years to come night vision goggles would be made for personal and business use.

Pre dawn anglers can also be another party to appreciate this equipment for many underwater animals are much harder to view at night since they are very intolerant to the moving of the water and they can sense if someone’s trying to get them.

Via Night vision goggles, a lot of tasks are getting done in less time for a more productive life.

Figuring Out What Width Skateboard Deck You Need

The first thing that you want to consider when choosing a skateboard deck is style. This needs to be on the top of your list because skateboarding is a lot about style. Who is your favorite skater? What is your favorite team or company? What kind of graphics do you like. You need to consider all these things because you want to be proud of the way your skateboard looks.

Now that you have the style part down, you need to decide what kind of skating you are going to use your new skateboarding deck for. The type of skating you will be doing determines the size your skateboard should be.

If you are going to be doing a lot of skating on vert ramps or pools, you are going to want to have a wider board that is a little more stable. This means you will probably want a skateboard that is 8.25 to 8.5 inches.

If you are going to use the skateboard for a lot of street skating or doing a lot of technical tricks, you probably want to get a narrower skateboard that will allow you to do flip tricks easier than if you are using a wider board. Skateboards that are 7.5, 7.75, or 8.0 inches are commonly used for this type of skating.

If you want to get a skateboard deck that will work well for all types of skating, you could choose a skateboard deck that is 8.0 inches wide and have a nice all purpose skateboard.

If you are going to be cruising around and not really do any tough tricks, you could consider old school deck or a longboard.

Whatever type of skateboarding you plan to do, thinking about it a little before you buy the first cool skateboard deck you see will make sure your new skateboard deck gives you years of service in addition to just looking cool! Good luck on your quest for the perfect skateboard deck.

Skateboarding Equipment At Great Prices For New Or Old Skaters

Skateboarding has become an extremely popular sport. ESPN has immortalized skaters and other extreme sports athletes with the X-Games and many people are getting into the sport because of this. More people than ever are looking for places to get skateboarding equipment at great prices. Before you run down to Walmart or K-Mart, you should do a little research because there are a lot of places where you can get great deals on skateboarding equipment. You can get top of the line skateboarding equipment on shoe string budget. There are a bunch of things you may be looking for. Some are required, some are optional. Really, everything other than the skateboard is optional so you should probably start there.

When purchasing your first skateboard, you will most likely want to purchase a complete skateboard. There really is no reason to buy the components one at a time unless you really want to put together a unique skateboard. If you check out one of the online skateboard equipment websites we recommend you should be able to save a bunch of money and get a professional quality board for the price of a K-Mart special.

Skateboard shoes are the next thing most skaters buy. Heck, many non skaters buy them just because they look cool. While many non-skaters choose to wear skate shoes, the design of the skate shoe includes many features designed for use in skating. These features almost invariably include a flat sole made of rubber or polyurethane, a suede or leather composition, and double or triple stitching.

Many features of the Skate Shoe are designed to increase its durability. The Skate Shoe is subjected to the abrasiveness of a skateboard’s grip tape on a regular basis when worn by skaters. This is why skaters tend to go through shoes quickly. Super Suede, Action Leather, and plastic underlying the toe cap help to increase the durability of a skate shoe. Lace loops and protectors are designed to prevent laces from shredding by shielding the most common areas that contact with grip tape.

While you might not think it is cool, most skaters really need to have pads and a helmet. In fact, unless you are just skating around in your driveway, I can’t really think of a good reason to not wear pads and a helmet. The better a skater gets, the harder the tricks are that they will try. As you try harder moves, you will crash and burn. It is a fact. Hitting the concrete without pads can have you laid up inside nursing your wounds instead of skating so don’t cut your skateboarding time short just because you think it is cool not to wear safety equipment.

Another piece of extreme sports gear you may want to invest in is grip tape. Grip tape is an adhesive backed friction-surfaced material usually attached to the deck of a skateboard or longboard to give the rider more friction to control the board. It is sometimes used decoratively, since it can come in many different styles and colors. Grip tape comes as rough sheets similar to adhesive-backed sandpaper. The grade and size of grit varies by company and manufacture method.

Now that you have a list of some of the key skateboarding equipment, there are some great internet resources for extreme sports gear like www.SkateboardPlanet.net to save a bunch of money.

It’s down to Russia’s Demidov vs. Denmark’s Eastgate for $9.15M WSOP title

Ivan Demidov and Peter Eastgate emerged from a marathon session early Monday morning at the World Series of Poker and will meet later in the night to settle the $9.15 million title.

Eastgate, a 22-year-old poker professional from Odense, Denmark, eliminated the last American in the field with a set of threes. Dennis Phillips, who tried to bluff Eastgate with a 10 high, shrugged his shoulders and nodded his head when Eastgate made the call that eliminated him.

“I just want to be alive on the river,” Phillips said before an ace came on the turn, officially eliminating the 53-year-old trucking account manager who started the final table with the chip lead.

Phillips, of Cottage Hills, Ill., won $4,517,773 for third place.

Eastgate held 79.5 million chips, nearly 22 million chips more than Demidov, a 27-year-old semiprofessional poker player from Moscow.

“My hands held up all the time — that’s the key factor,” Eastgate said.

Those big hands, including two full houses and a set, helped Eastgate end the tournament for four players.

Ylon Schwartz finished fourth and won $3,774,974 after failing on a bluff, giving Eastgate a lead over Demidov. Scott Montgomery watched Eastgate hit a full house on the river, after Montgomery picked up three aces on the turn.

Autographed Sports Memorabilia: Information You Can Use Before You Purchase

Today, a lot of fraud still remains in the sports memorabilia industry — especially on eBay. Legitimate vendors have tried to curb this for a long time but it is a tough battle. Baseball memorabilia remain one of the most popular Google keyword, followed by football memorabilia. However autographed sports memorabilia still is a viable online business.

Sports memorabilia collecting is similar to the stock market. The athlete is the stock. You have to make sure the athlete has good fundamentals, management, and you also have to investigate how the market values them.

Is eBay a good place to buy autographed memorabilia? It definitely is but you just have to make sure you are purchasing from a reliable seller and that you are getting real items. We would be happy to look at items you are considering buying, just email us with a link to the item and we will give you our opinion.

eBay is the favorite place for the dummy sellers to sell the fake autographed items because they are considered to be certified and real.Typically, the dishonest seller provides an image of the autograph and a description. To the new buyer, the signature looks authentic.

Find several reputable dealers that sell authentic autographed sports memorabilia and other high-quality sports products. Shop with the dealers you trust. Beware of the grifters online - dealers that cannot show proof of authenticity on high-dollar items. Also, beware of those who might try to pass off sports memorabilia with duplicate signatures. If you have a bad feeling about a product or online seller ,don’t take the chance.

Sport jerseys, Gloves, game tickets, batting gloves and some other sports item are assumed to be of great interest for autographed sports memorabilia collectors.Collectors will have a wide range of interest when it comes to collecting autographed sports memorabilia, but they do need to be extremely careful when purchasing items to make sure that the item is authentic. At times, collectors will have entire hall in their homes dedicated to their collection of sports memorabilia, which might tend to drive their spouse crazy at times. Banners of players of every sport|game are created, which can tell a story about a certain event in history of the sport.

One great benefit associated with an autographed sports memorabilia item is that their monetary value may go up with time.A Joe Montana NFL signed jersey sells for more than double what it used to sell for 5 years ago. Unfortunately, when a player passes away, their memorabilia goes up even more.

Tony “the Birdman” Hawk And The Skateboarders Of Birdhouse Skateboarding

Birdhouse skateboards is one of the biggest skating companies in the world! It was made by Tony Hawk! Birdhouse Skateboards has some awesome pro skateboarders like Tony Hawk, Shawn White, Steve Nesser, Matt Ball, Willy Santos, Jeremy Klein, and Riley Hawk! They also have cool boards and videos.

Tony Hawk (A.K.A. The Bird Man) was born in San Diego, California on May 12, 1968! Tony describes him self growing as a nightmare! He also said “Instead of the terrible twos, I was the terrible youth! He was always very determined to. If he couldn’t do something he would be very harsh on himself.

His older brother Steve gave Tony his first skateboard when he was 9. Steve thought maybe it would help Tony settle down a bit and give him something to work at! And it did! As Tony became better at skateboarding he began to calm down!

But Tony would still beat himself up if he thought he didn’t skate his best. If he won a contest but thought he could do better he would go home and go to his bedroom and lock the door so he could be by himself.

By the age of 12 Tony was sponsored by Dogtown skateboards! He turned pro when he only 14! By 16 he was one of the best skaters in the world! In 1990 he married a girl named Cindy Dunbar! In 1992 they had their first son Riley Hawk! But as time went on skateboarding started to die down. Tony was losing lots of money. So he decided to start his own skateboarding company. As you may have guessed he called it Birdhouse. In 1994 Tony and Cindy got a divorce.

A few years later skateboarding started to get some of its thunder back! Birdhouse got more and more popular to! Tony got most of his money back again! In 1996 He got remarried! Just this time to girl named Erin Lee. In 1998 Tony and his family started a kids clothing company called “Hawk clothing”!

In 1998 Activision made the first Tony Hawk game “Tony Hawk’s Pro skater (THPS)” for the Play Station. The game was a huge hit! The next year the “Tony Hawk’s Pro skater 2 (THPS2)” game came out! It too was a huge hit! Today there are 9 Tony Hawk games not including “Tony Hawks down hill jam”!

In 1991 Erin gave birth to Tony’s second son Spencer! And then again in 2001 to Tony’s third son Keegan! In 2002 Tony created the Boom Boom HuckJam tour which featured some of the best pro skaters, BMX riders, and motocross riders! It was very popular! Every show was sold out! In 2004 Erin and Tony got a divorce.

Tony Hawk even has a roller coaster at the Six Flags in San Antonio and in St.Louis!
Its called “Tony Hawk’s big spin”! They are also working on a Tony Hawk water ride called “Tony Hawks half pipe”!

Tony got remarried again in 2006 to Lhotse Merriam! She gave birth to Tony’s first daughter Kadence in July of this year! Today Tony is pretty much retired from skateboarding. He still skates for fun and does a demo every once and a while.

Now you may be thinking Birdhouse Skateboards is just Tony Hawk, but there are a bunch of other skaters that make Birdhouse Skateboards who they are. Below are just a few.

Shaun White was born in Carlsbad, California on September 3, 1986! He is mostly known for his awesome snowboarding skills. But he has proved that he has what it takes to be a pro skateboarder. Shaun White’s nickname is “Flying Tomato” because of his red hair! At first he liked his nickname. He would actually wear t-shirts and head bands and other stuff like that that say “Flying Tomato” on them! He likes to skate vert

Steve Nesser was born in Minnesota. He is also still living in Minnesota. He has been skateboarding for 14 years! He is also sponsored by Adio!

Matt Ball was born in Pensacole, Florida. He has been skateboarding for 12 years. He is living in Ontario, California. He is also sponsored by Pig Wheels!

Willy Santos was born in the Philippines. He now lives in Poway, California. He has been skateboarding for 19 years!

Jeremy Klein was born in Torrance California. He has been skateboarding since he was in 7th grade!

Riley Hawk was born in San Diego California in 1992. He is Tony Hawk’s son (obviously)! Riley isn’t pro yet, but he is getting there! He is sponsored by Volcom , Monster, Adio, and Nixon!

Batting Cages – Common Sense Will Keep A Player Safe

As a coach it is our responsibility to teach sports safety. Many experts say it is the number one responsibility of any good coach or parent. Children need to learn to practice good safety in every sport. Baseball and softball injuries are preventable. Baseball and softball is among the most popular sport in the United States. In the United States there are over 6 million kids from the ages of 6 – 15 playing organized baseball and softball. There are three times that playing the game recreationally. In 2005 there were an estimate of 175,000 kids treated in hospital emergency rooms for baseball and softball related injuries.

Baseball pitching machines are very simple and easy to operate. The key is to use them properly. I have been to many of practices and watch untrained coaches and players use equipment and get hurt. Here are 5 key tips to reduce of chance of injury when using a pitching machine.

1. Adult supervision is a mustwhile at the batting cages. As adults we are good role models for our players. We as adults are supposed to be older and wiser. We can all remember what it was like to be young. As children we feared nothing. Coaches and parents look for hidden dangers. Make sure the player is aware of possible dangers. It is always better to be safe than sorry.

2. Batting helmets are a must. Batting helmets offer great protection to[/spin lessen the chance of head or facial injuries. a secure fit. Face guards have shown to prevent facial injuries.

3. Dry baseballs are also a key for a pitching machine. Balls that become wet by rain or the morning dew can play havoc. Look out for bad pitches. Make sure that the pitching machine and baseballs are dry before use. A great idea is to use pitching machine baseballs. They are designed not to absorb moisture. The pitching machine baseballs will give a batter a great pitch every time.

4. Common sense will take players a long way. Keep a player focused. Teach the player on what to do if the ball is coming at them. Teach the player how to move properly out of the way of a wild pitch.

5. Have a plan. Act quickly if an injury occurs. Have a properly stocked first aid kit and always have a cell phone close by in case of an emergency.

I have been to a pregame and witness this happen. I was coaching an away game and a young palyer was getting loose in a batting cage, not paying attention and he got hit in the face high on his cheekbone. I know that it could have been prevented if only proper instruction would have been taken. No matter what the age of the athlete is, stay out of the hospital emergency room and stay on the baseball field. Always pitch safety first.
